I am actually an avid member of AVAAZ which is an international web movement started back in 2007 with a simple mission, to "organize citizens of all nations [and] close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want". Avaaz means "voice" in many Middle Easter, European, and Asian languages and has 10,277,440 members world wide. This organization gets to work when a crisis is held up at point, shedding light on the situation by bringing a flood of attention onto it. Basically, they present a trouble and give back ground information and the latest of news on the subject(what politicians are saying, what decision they might make, etc.) then they leave it up to the public and members to decide whether they are against or not. This organization does not pressure nor does it infringe any freedom for it boils down to whether you want to act/help or not. I myself have signed a few of their petitions including the anti-corruption campaign in India in which Anna Hazare, a 73 year old Gandhian activist, declared a fast to the death until the government agreed to let civil society draft a new anti-corruption law. The campaign erupted and in just a mere 4 days
India's government signed a written submission to all of Hazare's demands. I deeply encourage that others become aware of Avaaz's emergency-response way of getting things down in this world. I completely stand behind this movement.
